General Information

USMC   S./Sgt. Martin, of the local recruiting station hosted a “Poolie” Family Night on Jan.14, 2000 at our MCL Building, which went very well.  There was a host of young recruits, accompanied by their parents, and a potluck supper was served.  Present from the USMC Ranks were:

Maj. Venoit
Sgt./Maj. Alford
M./Sgt. Roberts
G./Sgt. Sullivan
S./Sgt. Connoley
S./Sgt Martin

G./Sgt. Sullivan is a Drill Instructor at San Diego, Calif.  Gunny Sullivan did a very good job of explaining step-by-step, week-by-week training in boot camp for the benefit of the parents.  The parents had lots of questions, and the DI did a very good job answering them.

By the way, G./Sgt. Sullivan is one of our local marines, and is a 1987 graduate of HLB High School.  He has served in the Corps since graduating.  Congratulations to G./Sgt. Sullivan for a job well done and a hardy good luck in his career.

February Bingo Schedule

February 8, 2000 10 PM Eastside Hall
February 22, 2000 10 PM Eastside Hall
February 29, 2000 11 AM Eastside Hall

We still need help at the bingo games and appreciate all who can turn out.  Please make an effort to try to help at the games.  That is our source of income. Volunteers need to be at Gaming Hall about 2 hours before the games start.

Upcoming Events

The St. Mary Detachment at the American Legion Home in Morgan City will host the state staff meeting on February 12, 2000.  All members are invited to attend.

There will also be a “Devil  Dog Growl”, so if you attend, bring your Dog Tag, Passport, membership card, and plenty of loose change.  The police dog will be watching and collecting bones.  This should be “lots-o-fun”.

The Southeast Division Convention will be in Mobile, Alabama on March 10th, 11th, and 12th, 2000 at the Holiday Inn at Tillman’s Corner (just outside of Mobile).  The hotel is easily accessed from the North, South, East, or West.  We will discuss this further at the meeting.

Ya’ll Come
Semper Fidelis,
Commandant Ned Bergeron
